After a fantastic summer with the kids in Canada it's back on the travels. Paul kindly dropped me off at the airport in Montreal, first stop Chicago, then Hong Kong, then Bangkok. ... We flew to Bangkok with China Airlines which were a nice enough airline for anyone interested and we made it safely! From LA to Taipei and then onto Bangkok we flew on a 747 and the flight was so empty nearly everyone had 3 seats to themselves to sleep. ... We decided because of the time difference not to sleep so that we would sleep when we got to Bangkok at 1. ... So we arrived in Bangkok, caught a taxi to Khao San Road (the backpacker area) walked around for another hour trying to find our hotel and finally got to sleep, to sleep for like 3 hours and then we were wide awake! We got up hoping Mama was still here, making our favourite breakfast. ... Its been nearly 2 years since we were in Bangkok, but she was there and we had our favourite omelette and rice for breakfast. ... We do love Asia and were so happy to be back, we have been to Bangkok so many times in our travels its almost like coming home. ...

So, we arrived in Thailand at 3:30 on wednesday afternoon. We bought some Pad Thai, which was delicious! and realized we hated Bangkok, so we decided to book a train/bus/boat to Ko Samui, an island on the east coast (gulf of thailand). ... That night, we walked around Kohsan, and we bought some cool little bracelettes.So, we arrived in Thailand at 3:30 on wednesday afternoon. Ah, Bangkok. ... I love Thai food and not surprisingly its very good here! The next day we decide to go to see two of Bangkok's biggest attractions - The Grand Palce and Wat Po. ... As we’re walking towards the grand palace we were approached by a nice gentleman who speaks perfect English and tells the palace is closed until 2pm for lunch and that we should go to some other temples becuase that is the "real Bangkok" and the tuk-tuk will take us for only 50 Baht. ... So when we got back to Bangkok (FYI - we spent about an hour and a half at the floating market and about 3-4 hours in the van getting there and back), he dropped us off a "2 minute walk" from the palace. ... He also told us to be wary of the tuk-tuk mafia who roam outside the palace telling tourists that palace is closed and will gladly mark on maps the best places to see in Bangkok. ...

I was in Bangkok, Thailand for about 2 days and have such mixed feelings, how to begin. ... We weren't exactly sure where it would stop and ended up missing our exit, but because of this we found a great restaurant (called "In Love" -very Thai indeed) overlooking the river and the Bangkok bridge to catch the last minutes of the sunset. ... Fabulous! -Hopped into a tuk tuk and asked him to take us to a shop.I was in Bangkok, Thailand for about 2 days and have such mixed feelings, how to begin. ... We're still enjoying our anti-climatic end to our 10 week trip. Not that Bangkok is a horrible city, I just find that it doesn't compare culture-, scenery- or food-wise to other places we've been. ... I'm guessing this will be our last entry, since we don't have any entry-worthy plans made for our last day or two in Bangkok, and Garreth and I are seriously considering skipping a hotel in Hong Kong and sleeping in the airport somehow, since we arrive late afternoon Thursday and leave early morning Friday. ... Can you do that? It would save us a lot of money we don't have because from what I remember, the airport is about an hour by transit from downtown to spend at least $100 on hotel for the night.We're still enjoying our anti-climatic end to our 10 week trip.
