Railee came up on our radar after bumping into Chis and Jess in Ko Tao, so after leaving Ko Phan Gan we decided to give Ko Samui as miss and had straight over to see what Railee had to offer.Railee came up on our radar after bumping into Chis and Jess in Ko Tao, so after leaving Ko Phan Gan we decided to give Ko Samui as miss and had straight over to see what Railee had to offer....

Aug 11, 2008 - Thailand - Railay
Hiding behind a layer of impenetrable cliffs, Railay is possibly one of the most stunning beach locations we've visited so far on our trip south through Thailand. ... Fabulous! Arriving in Railay we discovered that there are two sides to paradise - depending on how much cash you have to splash! The best beach with the orgasmic sunsets - and most expensive resorts (some reaching £860 per night!) - are on the West. ... To the East is a beach which strongly resembles a mud flat - home to the budget accommodation.Hiding behind a layer of impenetrable cliffs, Railay is possibly one of the most stunning beach locations we've visited so far on our trip south through Thailand. ... Aug 9, 2008 - Krabi - Railay Beach
To get to Railay Beach, you have to take a longboat. ... After a 15 mins boat ride, we arrive at Railay, but because it's low tide, our boat can't pull up to the beach all the way, and we're stuck walking with our backpacks in knee-deep water for about 100 metres to the beach. ... Thank goodness our resort was right in front of us and we didn't have to go any further! We've found any time that we have a somewhat rocky time getting to a new destination, it turns out that we have an amazing time in the city, and Railay was no different. ... I was overjoyed and looking forward to staying there for 5 nights! You couldn't stop me from smiling ear to ear! On Railay, there are no modes of transportation other than by foot, so it was a nice change. ... Okay, by left turn I guess he meant to say straight up a 90 degree rock wall! Huffing and puffing, sweating and scraped we make it up to an amazing view of both sides of Railay. ...

Jul 24, 2008 - Railay
The kind boat attendant had allowed me on this boat without my ticket but one I got to the mainland, I would still need 2 bus tickets to get across the mainland, and then another boat ticket to get to Railay (an island off the west coast of Thailand). ... If the bus and boat attendants didn’t take pity on me, I would be stranded in a random town in Thailand!! Well the story gets worse, but this is getting really long (and this no good horrible bad day story has a lot more to it), so I’ll just sum up the rest of the story/journey to Railay by saying that the bus and boat attendants didn’t take pity on me for losing my tickets, but did allow me to pay my way at each juncture. ... So in the end I made it to Railay!! I arrived on the island (well actually I think it’s technically a peninsula) just as the sun was setting. ... Railay is so beautiful. ... info/ In total I spent two nights/three days on Railay. ...

Mar 10, 2008 - March 7-10 - Ton Sai Beach, Railay
The Railay Peninsula consists of four beaches - Ton Sai (where we stayed), Railay West (a beautiful - but resort dominated beach seperated from Ton Sai by the tide and a limestone cliff that juts out), Railay East (not much of a beach - more of a mangrove when the tide is high) and Pranang (a small bay known for its caves). ... We climbed a short wall on Railay east to start off the day, before getting soaked by the incoming tide - so had to move to Railay West (where the rest of our nail biting climbs took place!) However along the way Meaghan's foot fell victim to several VERY sharp pieces of either fish bone or coral (still not sure which as the automatic reaction was to just reach down and rip them out before being battered again by the oncoming waves) Not an ideal things to happen when you're shoving your feet into tight, 2 sizes to small, full of other peoples sweat, shoes!!! But with our handy dandy medical kit in tow it was all fixed up in a jiffy! Good thing there was a nurse around! The rest of the day was filled with Meaghan asking question after question about climbing and life in Thailand and Andrew (who isn't a fan of heights) climbing to the top as fast as humanly possible before he could catch a glimpse of the ground below. ... Our guide was not the most personable, but appeared to know what he was talking about and was the only guide not to smoke up on the trip over to the climbing spot - so we just went with it and climbed the day away! The rest of the time was spent exploring (and recovering from the climbing!) We did manage to find an awesome viewpoint that looked over pretty much all of Railay, well worth the steep 150 meter climb up. ...
