Next up its Trang which at first sight is just another Thai provincial however towns of this nature are growing on us because the people just seem more approachable and much more interested in us rather than viewing foreigners as a source of cash. ... We spent two days in Trang and enjoyed it especially the night market which sold excellent cheap food, night markets are definately growing on us. ... A little town with very little tourists I knew I had made the right decision to stop here when, upon disembarking the train, I noticed that only two foreigners (including myself) were standing on the platform. Most travelers use Trang as a base to jump to neighboring islands (which I'll do in a few days). ... As it's been the case with my travels in Asia, I was stared at a lot in Trang. ... ) we ended up spending 5 nights in Trang, a sleep inland provincial capital which, at most, usually provides holiday-goers with one night's accomodation between coastal beach destinations. ... The coffee was plentiful, cheap and good - Trang is famous for its quality drip coffee - no nescafe here! Fruit shakes were readily available and value-priced (20 Baht compared to 60 baht or more on koh lanta). ... We did 2 day trips: one long walk in Trang with a visit to a playground for Asha; and one outing to the botanical gardens where we got to do a very quick (we were bugged-out and had to make a hasty departure), but fun, canopy walk up high in the tropical rainforest. ... Trang also has an excellent food night market where we almost went overboard trying many of the tasty foods on offer: - fresh coconut juice - fresh OJ - banana, sweet potato and potato fritters / tempura - a variety of noodle types and flavours - roast chicken with yellow curry rice - skewered fish cubes - pancakes - appley filled pancake bites - sweet stick rick with coconut and mango - fresh papaya (something we hadn't had much of yet because it's just coming into season) and probably more, but that's all that I can remember - yum! And, we enjoyed our last few days of the 2 weeks we had with Asha's vancouver grandma and grandpa. ... After they left, Asha kept saying "where are grandma and grandpa - i want to see them now!" All in all, a good time in Trang. ...

We woke to the screaming wails of a totally out-of-control little girl seated right next to us. Once again, Matt and I hung out in the dining car for a long time until we got really close to Trang. ... Matt soon followed and shortly thereafter we arrived in Trang. ...
