As I mentioned in my last post, Mom and I made an overnight trip together to Elko. It was extremely cold for a couple of days but warmed up considerably today. ... We use a 5 gallon tank to BBQ in the summer, and fortunately it was nearly full. ... After perusing the amenities of this “high in the hills of Indian country, so called RV park” and grasping the fact that snow will soon be falling, Bob suggested that we ban the rafting trip and head way downhill to Laughlin, Nevada! YES, YES, and yes! Didn’t take me long to agree to his idea! Still on Route 66 and headed into Kingman, our 88 mile loop of this famous by-way was interesting, but short lived. ... Peach Springs is at an elevation of about 4500 feet above sea level; Laughlin, Nevada is 504 feet! Downhill, through Haulapai land, and never looking back on our dismissed rafting trip on the Colorado River…. ... We were so very thankful we didn’t keep our original plans…temps in Laughlin, Nevada were in the 70’s, while the Grand Canyon was getting its’ first snowfall! The only storm we hit was a sandstorm while still on Route 66. ... Don Laughlin’s purchase of this property for $135,000 bucks, was a return of his investment of over 1091% today. ... In 1966, Laughlin, Nevada (named after Don) was a vision of one person who renovated the old motel, added more and newer slot machines, a few gaming tables, and a restaurant which sold “all you can eat” chicken dinners for 98 cents. ...

Nevada: October 30 – November 1 We didn’t spend much time in Nevada as we were anxious to get to the Canyons. We were lucky enough to find an RV park connected with the Grand Sierra Resort, one of the nicer facilities on the outskirts of Reno. ...
