but Mirror Lake right in the middle of downtown Lake Placid is so peaceful and sitting in an Adirondack chair just taking in the smell of nearby chimneys is so serene. ... The trainers hold onto the safety harness as they attempt their jumps! I also learned (by horning in on another group's private tour)that they will never be able to hold the Winter Olympics at Lake Placid despite its wonderful facilities from 1932 and 1980. ... and Lake Placid is simply too small for today's Olympics events. ... Because of poor Internet reception here in Lake George, I am making a journal entry today covering the last several days. -- After our adventure to Lake Placid and Fort Ticonderoga, we had a kick back day in camp. ... -- The next building contained exhibits depicting the history of the Adirondacks, including a collection of postcards showing old pictures of the Lake George area and Lake Placid, among others. ... We watched the news reports in horror that described the wreck of the Metro train in Washington, DC, where several people were killed. -- Yesterday, we saw a beaver by the shore of a lake and there were warning signs to watch for moose near Lake Placid, but so far the only other critter we have seen is a rabbit. ...
